Wide-eyed firework enthusiast Mario Ballotelli has ordered a life-size statue of himself, probably in this pose, for his home in Italy.

According to the sculptor, Livio Scarpella, Balotelli wants to be “immortalised” by having the statue show him to be “defiant” and “muscular”.

“I have imagined him as an athlete from ancient times, ” Scarpella told Italian paper Il Gionarle di Brescia. “The statue will be a mix of classical and pop style in platinum and coloured bronze with the eyes made of stones.”

Balotelli is not the only footballer to turn his home into a Valhalla-themed ego temple.

Man United’s inconsistent escort-botherer Nani has a similar statue of himself at his home, made of marble.
